Rare 1930s-1940s racially inappropriate lawn sprinkler depicting a "Sambo" type character in blue coveralls and red-striped shirt with a toothy grin. This fully functional object, 37" long overall, bears a spike at the bottom to secure the sprinkler to the lawn. A garden hose would be attached to the base, and the water pressure would be used to rotate the figure about a central vertical axis. The water would exit through the end of the black hose "held" by the figure, which terminates with a perforated metal cap. The water pressure and the rotation of the figure would cause the hose to flail about...and water the lawn evenly. Typical aging and slight rust as one would expect. There are a few similar repros of the piece - this is undoubtedly one of the original pieces and is guaranteed authentic for life.
