ADOLF HITLER (1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Very rare fine content letter of state, 4pp. 8 1/4" x 11 3/4" on "Adolf Hitler Deutscher Reichskanzler" letterhead, Berlin, Dec. 19, 1935 to KING GEORGE II OF GREECE (1890- 1947). In Greece between 1924 and 1935 there were 23 changes of government, a dictatorship, and 13 coups. General Georgios Kondylis finally overthrew the government and invited deposed King George II to return. Here, Hitler acknowledges the king's return to power. In part: "...Your Majesty, you have had the kindness to inform me... that your majesty has felt obligated to asnwer the unanimous call of the Hellenic people for an acceptance of your royal duties, and that your majesty took possesion of the throne again...I took a vivid interest in this event, so joyous to the whole Hellenic people; I ask Your Majesty to accept my sincerest congratulations on the occasion of the ascension of the throne, which has been carried out so favorably. May Your Majesty have a long and successful reign. I and the Government of the Reich will always strive to further develop and tighten the friendly conditions between our two countries. in expressing personally my best wishes for Your Majesty and prosperity for the Hellenic people, I give your majesty my assurance of my highest esteem and sincere friendship..." Bears an excellent black ink Hitler signature at conslusion, co-signed by KONSTANTIN VON NEURATH (1873-1956), Nazi diplomat and Hitler's advisor on foreign affairs. Original fold, very fine condition. With original hand-carried transmittal envelope with large, embossed seal. Despite the nationalist government's strong economic and military ties to Germany, King George was known to have pro-British feelings at the start of World War II. On 28 October 1940 Prime Minister Metaxas rejected an Italian ultimatum demanding the stationing of Italian troops in Greece, and Italy invaded. George fled, not returning to his shattered homeland until 1946. While Hitler promotion documents are readily available, his letters of state, especially of any consequence, are much rarer.
