(1835 - 1919) American industrialist and philanthropist who built a fortune on investments in what later became U.S. Steel. Signed and inscribed book, Carnegie's "Triumphant Democracy, or Fifty Years' March of the Republic" (New York: Charles Scribner's Sons), 1886, 519pp. 8vo. Carnegie signs on a front free endpaper in black ink, adding the dedication: "William Hamilton Esq. with the regards of his fellow Countryman". Shows slight toning to the page edges, with some bumps and dark stains to the edges of the red cloth boards, else very good.
