(1745 - 1813) Pioneering American physician and signer of the Declaration of Independence. Rare manuscript D.S. "Benj'n Rush", 1p. 8 1/4" x 7 1/2", "Library" (the Library Company of Philadelphia, founded in 1731 by Benjamin Franklin as a library), Dec. 6, 1792, an order to Treasurer Samuel Coates to pay Mordecai Lewis the sum of 11:6:6 pounds: "...for his account of Duly-bought & paid by him for Books, imported, at sundry times in the present year..." Bears a bold, attractive signature by Rush, also signed by: JOSIAH HEWES, Director of the Library ca. 1773; MOREDECAI LEWIS, a prominent merchant, shipowner, and a director of the Bank of North America; DR. THOMAS PARKE, RICHARD WELLS, and JOSEPH PASCHALL. Trimmed at bottom with no loss of text, two split folds, still very good.
