Likely unique mounted albumen photograph, 7 1/2" x 4 1/2", bears an image of ten cavalrymen, some dismounted, all in a line with a structure in the background. Mounted to a page from a period military publication. Some of the individuals have red numbers beneath their images, but no key is available. From a grouping of photos by John C. Grabill, and likely by him as well - probably taken at Pine Ridge reservation, ca. 1891. A few edge flaws, else very good. JOHN C. H. GRABILL (1849-1903) was a prominent western photographer most remembered for his important images of the early Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the Sioux Indians, and the aftermath of the Wounded Knee Massacre.
