A very interesting and attractive Civil War relic, a Confederate 12-pound iron artillery projectile, 4 1/2" dia., cut in half to expose the interior. The hollow cavity contains a large quantity of spherical lead shot suspended in a sulfur matrix, with a brass Bormann-style fuse at top and an iron "side-load" plug at the two o'clock position. The projectile is mounted to a 7" x 9" wood plaque, also bearing two (likely reproduction) Confederate uniform buttons and an information plaque indicating that the shell was recovered at Bermuda Hundred outside of Richmond, Virginia. The display plaque shows a few small scuffs, else very good.
