An interesting Revolutionary War item, 1p. oblong 8vo., New Fairfield, July 31, 1776, acknowledging receipt of recently purchased weapons delivered to a company of the Connecticut State Brigade under General James Wadsworth, in part: "Received July 15th 1776 of the Selectmen of New Fairfield one gun purchased by them on Government account for my Company in the Service at New York..." A second gun and bayonets have been added to the invoice below. Signed at the conclusion by a Captain G. Hubbell and by town selectmen Nehemiah Beardsley, Dan Towner and Phinehas Beardsley, all of whom also service in the Revolutionary War. Shows folds, with small splits and a few spots of foxing, else very good. Wadsworth's Connecticut Brigade troops were among those who fled Manhattan in panic in September of 1776, and it is likely that the weapons so carefully accounted for here were abandoned in the evacuation.
