A rare and attractive dinner plate from President Dwight D. Eisenhower's "Air Force One" presidential aircraft, "Columbine III", in ivory-colored porcelain with fluted rim, 10" dia. with gilt trim at the outside edge, decorated with two transfer-printed blue columbine flowers above the President's initials; "D. D. E." The bottom of the plate bears the gilt label: "The Presidential Plane Columbine Washington D.C. May 1956", with the maker "Seagoing China", and the piece number "25". In fine condition. "Columbine III" was a military version of the Lockheed Constellation airliner, the only VC-121E variant ever constructed. It served as Eisenhower's personal airplane between 1954 and 1961. Mrs. Eisenhower chose the name "Columbine" in honor of the official flower of her home state, Colorado.
