(1880 - 1964) American general and Allied Supreme Commander in the Pacific in World War II, accepted the surrender of Japan and was later dismissed by Truman for advocating an invasion of China. Superb A.Q.S. on a 5.5 x 3.25 in. colorful patriotic card, in full: "Hoist the colors to the peak and let no enemy ever haul them down Douglas MacArthur" Fine. When MacArthur returned to Corregidor on March 2, 1945 he spoke from the parade ground where a few days earlier the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team had led the attack to retake the island. "I see the old flagpole still stands. Have your troops hoist the colors to the peak and let no enemy ever haul them down," MacArthur commanded.
