(1826-1901) Confederate colonel and legislator, participated in the 1861 Secession Convention and raised three regiments of Texas cavalry. Scarce war-date partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to. (sight), [n.p.], Feb. 9, 1863, a purchase order for 6 ½ cords of oak wood, for a cost of $45.50. Carter signs at the conclusion in black ink. Matted in grey and mounted in a double-sided gilt frame, with the signature and inscriptions rather light, else very good.
