(1773 - 1843) American naval officer who commanded the Constitution in its victory over the British warship Guerriere in the War of 1812. Fine content and association manuscript L.S., 3pp. 4to., Navy Yard, Washington, May 25, 1835 to ex-Secretary of the Navy JOHN BRANCH. Hull reminds Branch that he had been tasked with the additional duty of Navy Purchasing Agent in addition to his responsibility to command the Washington Navy Yard. Congress had not recognized his increased responsibilities and entitlement to additional pay. Hull asks that Branch pen a letter stating the course of events before and after the appointment, to be used to bolster his claim before Congress. Fold splits largely repaired with archival tape, else very good.
