(1724 - 1777) Signer of the Declaration of Independence, a representative to the Stamp Act Congress and a delegate to the Continental Congress. Partly-printed D.S., 3" x 3 1/2", a Pennsylvania one shilling banknote printed by Hall & Sellers, 1772, signed by Morton, along with JOHN SELLERS and CHARLES HUMPHREYS. Along with Morton, Humphreys was part of the Pennsylvania delegation attending the Continental Congress voting on the Declaration of Independence. The five members of the Pennsylvania delegation present were split: Willing and Humphreys opposed it, while Benjamin Franklin and James Wilson supported it. Morton voted with Franklin and Wilson, breaking the tie. The note is well-worn and creased, yet the signatures remain dark and quite distinct.
