Rare war-date document bearing autograph endorsements signed by two important Confederate generals. The document, 1p. 4to., is headed: "Estimate of funds required for the service of the Quartermaster's Dept. at Bowling Green, Ky. by Capt. William F. Harris in the Month of January 1862...For fuel, forage, Purchase of horses for artillery...", totaling $35,000. JOHN S. BOWEN (1830-1863) endorses the document: "Approved, Jno. S. Bowen, Col. Comdg. Brig." Bowen would later be promoted to major general and lead his men at Shiloh until his wounding. Again wounded at Vicksburg, he would die as a P.O.W. On the reverse of the integral leaf appears another autograph endorsement, this from Major Gen. WILLIAM J. HARDEE (1815-1873) who writes: "Appd., W. J. Hardee Major Genl". Hardee would also be promoted, to lieutenant general, would lead his corps at Shiloh and Atlanta, and attempt to halt Sherman's March to the Sea. Fine condition.
