(1920 - 2007) U.S. Marine who was part of the combat patrol that climbed Mount Suribachi and raised the first of two U.S. flags on the summit during the battle of Iwo Jima. Signed and inscribed book, "Uncommon Valor: 50th Anniversary of The Battle of Iwo Jima", ed. Robert L. Yehling, Jr. (Tampa: Faircourt international, Inc.), 1995, 194pp. 4to., a commemorative publication featuring an interview with Lindberg. He signs in black ink on the front flyleaf, which features the famous photo of the first American flag being raised over Mount Suribachi, and adds the inscription: "1st Flag Raiser, Iwo Jima Feb, 23, 1945 10:30 A.M." In fine condition. Of the 40 men in Lindberg’s platoon who mounted Suribachi, 36 would be killed or wounded in action for the island would be secured.
