(1892 – 1965) German general in the Wehrmacht who commanded the 225th Infantry Division, fighting in the north of the Russian Front, largely around Leningrad and in Kurland. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves. Lot of two signed items: war-date A.L.S. signed at conclusion and again in heading, 2pp. 4to., "In the Field", Aug. 23, 1942 to the widow of a deceased soldier. Risse mentions that the soldier, apparently a friend of the general himself, is missed by him and has finally found a proper burial site. He also mentions the man's qualities and character, and closes with warm parting words; WITH a war-date S.P. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" b/w, a chest-up pose in uniform, signed on verso adding rank as "Generalmajor and Division Commander". Both pieces are very good to fine.
