(1847 - 1934) German general and politician, crushed the Russians at Tannenburg and in Poland, forced to yield the Chancellor's office to Hitler in 1933. T.L.S. as “Reichsprasident” on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, April 12, 1933, to the city council of Hollfeld. Von Hindenburg thanks his correspondents for their city’s decision to grant him honorary citizenship and rename the upper market square in his honor. He signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Archivally silked, else very good.
