Good lot of four items signed by notable fighter pilots affiliated with the Royal Air Force during World War II, includes: DOUGLAS BADER (1910 - 1982) RAF ace credited with 20 aerial victories, four shared victories, six probables, one shared probable and 11 enemy aircraft damaged. Captured in 1941, he befriended German contemporary Adolf Galland. His many escape attempts - executed despite his missing legs - landed him in Colditz Castle. Signature in black ink on a 6" x 4 1/2" first-day cover honoring the 33rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain, with fellow ace and P.O.W. ROBERT STANFORD TUCK (1916-1987) and test pilot CLIFF ROGERS countersigning. Very good. WITH: ALAN C. DEERE (1917-1995) New Zealand-born R.A.F. ace who came to prominence for his actions over Dunkirk and during the Battle of Britain, rising to the rank of Air Commodore. T.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, Aug. 1, 1967, to an Edward H. Sims, arranging an interview for a book that his correspondent is writing. He signs boldly in blue ink at the conclusion, adding a salutation. Shows original mailing folds, else very good. includes a vintage 5"x 7" b/w photo of Deere in the cockpit of a Spitfire. WITH: WITOLD A. URBANOWICZ (1908-1996) Poland's foremost fighter pilot of World War II who fought on three fronts: Poland, in the Battle of Britain and in China with the Flying Tigers of Gen. Claire L. Chennault. Urbanowicz was credited with destroying 28 German and Japanese planes. With the RAF, he flew with 145 Squadron, and later with 303 Polish Squadron, which he also commanded. T.L.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Dec. 10, 1987, to a Mr. Adams. Urbanowicz thanks his correspondent for his letter and transmits a signed photo. He also notes that the image at the top of the page depicts his Hawker Hurricane, which bore the motto: "We Do Not Beg For Freedom. We Fight For Freedom". He signs boldly in black ink at the conclusion. Also present is the S.P. that he transmits with the letter, 4 3/4" x 8" b/w, a chest-up view of Urbanowicz in uniform, signed in blue ink beneath the image. Both very good. Four pieces.
