Scarce partly-printed D.S. in Cyrillic, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], May 5, 1965, a replacement award certificate for the World War II "Defense of Odessa" medal originally issued beginning December 22, 1942, provided by a local "voenkomat" ("military commissariat") to veterans who had lost their original awards. The document lists the recipient's name and the inventory number of the award, and is signed at the conclusion by a military official. This particular document is especially desirable due to the fact that, unlike the majority of battles for which the Red Army issued medals, the Defense of Odessa failed, and the Red Army defenders were forced to surrender to the Wehrmacht. In fine condition.
