(1892 - 1992) American four-star general, landed on the beaches at Normandy and led troops across the Cotentin Peninsula, at the Bulge and at Remagen, battled the Chinese in Korea and seized the crucial Iron Triangle. I.S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, ca. 1951, inscribed at bottom: "To Brig. Gen. Holmes Given with the greatest possible admiration and warm regards". Most likely given to Julius Cecil Holmes (1899-1968), who served 1942-1944 in the Liaison Section, AFHQ, 1944 as Deputy G-5, SHAEF, and 1944-1945 as Assistant Secretary of State. Fine.
