(1893 - 1981) American general of World War II who commanded the largest ground force ever led by one man. He was later Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Fine association T.L.S. "Brad" on Veterans Administration letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Washington, Nov. 26, 1947 to his colleague, Gen. JAMES VAN FLEET (1892-1992) an American four-star general who landed on the beaches at Normandy and led troops across the Cotentin Peninsula, at the Bulge and at Remagen. Bradley sends thanks for Van Fleet's letter of congratulations upon assuming administration of the V.A., and adds his hope that Van Fleet "...will enjoy your new duties in Germany..." Fine. Van Fleet was sent to Europe as the head of the Joint U.S. Military Advisory Group and executor of the "Truman Doctrine."
