(1877 - 1970) German financier and banker who engineered the rearmament of Germany. Broke with Hitler and joined the resistance when Germany went to war. Acquitted at Nuremberg. T.L.S. in pencil as president of the Reichsbank on official letterhead, 1p 4to., Berlin, Aug. 20, 1926 to a man in New York: "...Thank you for the lines...We call this in Germany: Nothing forgotten and nothing learned..." Toned a bit with folds, some soiling and edge wear and stains, overall good.
