Printed official document, 1p. 4to. on Hitler's official letterhead, Berlin, May 16, 1942, the text of "Decree V 5/42." Over his signature in type, Hitler announces: "...Federal Director R. Walther Darre has applied for leave of absence until further notice, from his duties as Director of the Federal Bureau for Agrarian Policy in the National Administration...in view of his poor health which has been failing for quite some time. I have accepted this application and commissioned...Herbert Backe to take over..." This copy was sent to Alfred Rosenberg's offices and is initialed as received by three directors. File holes, else very good. In 1933 Darre was elected to the Reichstag and became President of the German Agricultural Society. After failing to maintain food supplies in Nazi Germany, Darré was dismissed from office in May 1942. He was captured in 1945 and was eventually sentenced to five years imprisonment after being found guilty of confiscating the property of Polish and Jewish farmers during the war.
