(1885 – 1947) Luftwaffe commander-in-chief in Southeast Europe. His Luftflotte 4 carried out the bombing of Warsaw in 1939 and of Belgrade in 1941. Löhr had developed a plan to bomb Belgrade with incendiary bombs first, so that the fires would help the second, nighttime, attack to find the targets. This cost thousands of people their lives. Later appointed commander-in-chief in southeast Europe, in charge of all Wehrmacht forces there. Tried and executed for war crimes. Rare typed L.S. on official letterhead as Luftwaffe Commander in Austria, 1p. 4to., Vienna, Mar. 22, 1939, to Gauleiter of Vienna Walter Burckel. Lohr formally announces that he now commands Luftflotte 4, having been promoted to generalleutnant and placed in the position by Adolf Hitler. File and staple holes in left margin, else fine. Lohr received his commission from Hitler the same day. With photo.
