(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo, placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremburg. Most unusual signed book "H. Himmler", "Die Mammutjager vom Lonetal" ("The Mammoth-Hunters from Lonetal"), by SS Ahnenerbe-affiliated archaeologist Gustav Riek (Stuttgart: K. Thienemanns Verlag), [n.d.], 95pp. 8vo., a well-illustrated examination of Paleolithic sites excavated in Germany's Lone valley. Himmler signs boldly on the front flyleaf in black ink, adding the dedication "der leben Alexandra" and the date "13. II. 1939." The binding shows some slight splitting at the front hinge, with what appears to be a boot print and additional soiling to the signed page and facing pastedown not detracting from the signature or inscription, and with some tears and splitting to the original dust jacket, else very good.
