Interesting partly-printed document (unsigned), 1p. 4to., Berlin, May 4, 1940, presenting the Four-Year SS Service Award to "Haptsturmfuhrer" ("captain") Werner von Freyberg of the "SS-Verfugungstruppen" ("SS Dispositional Troops"), or SS-VT, which in 1940 would become the nucleus of the Waffen-SS. The certificate bears the printed facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler at the conclusion, with his blind-embossed wreathed national eagle seal at bottom left. Shows file holes at the left edge and some small folds overall, else very good. Also present with the certificate are a 2" x 2 1/2" b/w snapshot of an SS officer, presumably von Freyberg; a 7" x 5" b/w group photo depicting a unit of SS-VT men, with the individual described above pictured third from left; and a 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" b/w photo showing von Freyberg's grave with name plaque indicating his death on July 7, 1941, presumably during Operation Barbarossa. Four pieces.
