Scarce partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., Bochum-Linden, Nov. 24, 1940, the "Verpflichtungserklarung" ("commitment agreement") of an Erich Wirth zum Osten, promising twelve years of service with the "SS-Totenkopf-Division", an early military division of the SS comprised of troops drawn from the ranks of concentration camp guards of the "SS-Totenkopfverbande". The recruit signs in black ink near the center, with his father signing below, providing approval of the service commitment. A "police attestation" signed by the recruit's legal representative appears at bottom. Shows folds and file holes to the left margin, else very good. The "SS-Totenkopf-Division" would be incorporated into the Waffen-SS in August of 1940, and later was re-designated the 3rd SS Panzer Division "Totenkopf".
