Large group of documents related to the career and service of Kriegsmarine engineer Bernhard Schonherr, includes: Schonherr's "Wehrpass" book, 52pp. 12mo., dated Sep. 9, 1938 at Duisberg, and with his identification photo and signature appearing in the second page. It further lists his occupation as a shipbuilding engineer, and indicates that he served with the "Unterseebootsabnahmekommando" ("U-boat Acceptance Command"), which trained men for the U-boat fleet, and that he lived aboard two barracks ships of the U.A.K. Very good. WITH: Schonherr's "Wehrstammbuch" ("military record book"), 45pp. 8vo., giving similar details of his expertise and service, including a printed D.S. by Schonherr, 1p. oblong 8vo. Duisberg, Sep. 9, 1938, certifying that he is "...not aware of any circumstances that might justify the assumption that I am a Jew...." The book also includes two certificates indication that he is to be employed by the Kriegsmarine in a clerical capacity. Shows a few small tears, else very good. WITH: ten additional documents, most 1p. 8vo., including his temporary identification card, again bearing his signature and photo; a certificate indicating that he has passed the acceptance test for the "Marine Construction Office for Ship and Machine Building"; his 1942-dated order of dismissal from the Kriegsmarine; a "management certificate"; a document from the U-boat Acceptance Command indicating that his Wehrpass and other documents have been received; a certified copy of a January, 1943-dated letter confirming that Schonherr has been named a civil servant for life", signed in type by Erich Raeder at the conclusion; a discharge certificate from the Kriegsmarine issued by the Allied Military Control Board at War's end; and others unchecked by us. Twelve pieces overall, should be seen, and certainly worthy of further research.
