Fine set of documents and ephemera related to the service of Luftwaffe glider pilot Obergefreiter Hans-Werner Maass. Included is: award certificate of the Glider Pilot Badge, 1p. 8vo., Berlin, Sep. 30, 1941; Award Certificate No. 1921 for the Greater German Glider Badge ("Grosse Deutsche Segelfliegerabzeichen"), as corporal, 1p. 8vo., Berlin, Jan. 17, 1944; a rare, color "festival newspaper" from the man's squadron in Otrokowitz (Poland?); and an amazing (and most ironic!) hand-painted 4pp. 8vo. "guest book" for a reunion party of German aviators held at East Bargum, just west of Flensburg on May 15, 1945. Only four aviators have signed the book. East Bargum was just west of Flensburg where the German government under Karl Donitz remained "in power" until early June.
