Good pair of dark blue wool U.S. Navy dress caps, both named to seaman E.R. Morris. The first example is fitted with a cap tally bearing the name of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. SARATOGA (CV-3), with the owner's name "Morris E.R." stenciled within in black. The second cap displays the later "U.S. Navy" cap tally and bears Morris' stenciled name within in white. Both caps display wear and soiling from honest use, else very good. U.S.S. Saratoga, the U.S. Navy's third aircraft carrier, would serve throughout World War II, taking part in the Guadalcanal Campaign, the Battle of the Eastern Solomons (in which he planes sank the Japanese carrier RYUJO), the island-hopping campaign of 1943-44, and the invasion of Iwo Jima. She was sunk by the Baker shot of the Operation Crossroads nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll.
