Good pair of original identification passbooks, each 8pp. 12mo., printed in German and Hebrew, and issued by the "German Administration in the Area of the Commander-in-Chief East", which administrated Lithuania during its occupation by German troops during World War I. Both books are dated as being issued in the fist months of 1917, just before the creation of the democratic Council of Lithuania later that year. The books are issued to Dora Lipschutz and Chaim Jaffe, with their identity photos affixed to the fourth page opposite their fingerprints, and with their religion listed as "Mos.", or Mosaic, an outdated term for Judaism. Each shows wear and soiling from use, with contemporary pencil and ink marks, else very good.
