(1920 – 2002) American career pilot in the Air Force who retired as a colonel after 26 years of military service. He was the top American ace over Europe during World War II and a jet fighter ace with the Air Force in the Korean War, with 32 kills to his credit. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., Stamford, [n.d., ca. 1960s], his signed application for membership in the International Order of Characters, an organization dedicated to improving the fields of aviation and aerospace. He notes that he has "4,000" hours of military flying time and offers the name of Adolf Galland as a reference. Printed text slightly faded, else very good.
