PAUL VON HINDENBURG (1847 - 1934) German general and politician, crushed the Russians at Tannenberg and in Poland, forced to yield the Chancellor's office to Hitler in 1933. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. large 4to., Berlin, Mar. 18, 1927, the transfer of Generalmajor KARL VON DEWITZ is transferred to the staff of Group Command 2 effective April 1, 1927, retaining his residence in Juterbog. Co-signed by Minister of Defense OTTO GESSLER at bottom. Folds, else fine. KARL VON DEWITZ (1887-1945) would have a disastrous end under the Nazis. After a distinguished career as a staff officer in both world wars, and in fact leading a battle group in 1944, he was captured, exchanged, and then arrested for defeatism. He was executed by members of the Hitler Youth in mid-April, 1945.
