Original, uncut Kriegsmarine-era cap tally, 52" x 1 1/4", bearing the name of the pre-Dreadnought battleship "Linienschiff ["Line-Ship"] Schleswig-Holstein" in gold-colored aluminum bullion on black rayon. The ribbon ends are slightly ragged and show pin holes and adhesive residue, with slight patina to the bullion, else very good. The tally is accompanied by a 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" b/w photo postcard of the "Schleswig-Holstein" performing her most famous combat task - firing the first shots of World War II against the Polish port of Gdansk on September 1, 1939. The verso of the postcard is completed with routine content, and is postmarked at Gdansk (by its German name "Danzig"), with the date October 30, 1939, all over two "Freistadt Danzig" stamps. Two pieces.
