M1917 steel combat helmet, standard-issue to U.S. troops during World War I, brown with a sand finish applied to the exterior. The front of the helmet is painted with a small roundel with two white and two blue quadrants, possibly the insignia of the 4th Army Corps, with signs that a small metal device, possibly an eagle or star, was once affixed but has since been lost. The rear interior skirt is heat-stamped "ZA188", and the helmet retains is original black vulcanized fabric liner with padding and adjustment strings, although lacking the label. The brown leather chinstrap is also mostly present but broken with the buckle missing. Very good.
