German M1898/05 sword-type bayonet, 14 1/2" blade, 19 3/4" overall, for use with the Mauser 8mm Gewehr 1898. The tang of the blade is marked by the contractor: "Alex Coppel, Solingen", with no apparent serial number. The back of the blade bears several proof marks, as does the pommel. The grips are wood with parallel cuts for added purchase, and the weapon is housed in a rather loose-fitting blackened steel scabbard, bearing no markings. No frog is present. The blade bears notable patches of oxidation and storage grease overall, with minor signs of sharpening and blunting to the tip, while the metal pommel and quillion are well-oxidized. The scabbard bears a fine layer of brown oxidation, else very good. Sold with a World War II-era M1884/98 knife bayonet for the Karabiner 98k service rifle, 9 1/2" blade, 15" overall, with brown composite grips, the blade and pommel heavily oxidized and the blade heavily sharpened, in an oxidized and dented steel scabbard with well-worn leather frog, condition poor to fair overall. Two pieces.
