Fine example of a "Rundblickfernrohr" or targeting telescope, approx. 10 1/2" x 5" x 3 3/4", as used with a wide variety of German artillery pieces to provide indirect fire against ground targets. The scope, intended to be mounted vertically, features an objective lens set at a 90-degree angle from the eyepiece, with several adjustment knobs and bubble levels indicating horizontal and vertical balance. The body of the objective lens is marked "Rbl. F. Flak djg Nr. 16297 M H/6400", giving the designation of the instrument, identifying the maker as J Veltjens K-G of Berlin, and indicating that it was adopted for use by the Kriegsmarine. The optics are clear with only two or three dust spots visible. Shows some oxidation and external wear, else very good.
