Great lot of postal history from the opening days of World War II. Included is a printed postcard from a Danzig firm bearing a five pfennig "Frei Stadt" stamp, canceled on the day of the German invasion of Poland and Danzig, Sep. 1, 1939. The cancel bears an NSDAP eagle and swastika with the expression: "THE FUHRER HAS FREED US". Message on verso in German mentions the "anschluss" of Danzig. SOLD WITH four additional pieces: two postally-used covers and a postcard both mailed from Danzig and bearing fancy, pro-anschluss cancels Sep. 19, 1939, along with a sheet bearing the 6 and 12 pfenning stamps "Danzig ist Deutsch", these also bearing the same fancy Sep. 19th cancel. With a copy in Spanish of Hitler's Sep. 1, 1939 speech before the Reichstag and a postcard photo of Hitler. Six pieces.
