Fine signed book, "A Ship to Remember: The Saga of the Hornet", by Alexander R. Griffin (New York: Howell, Soskin), 1943, 288pp. 8vo. The front flyleaf bears the signatures of eight aviators who took part in the Battle of Midway, including USS HORNET air group members BERT EARNEST (VT-8), BILLY R. COTTRELL (VB-8), DOUG CARTER (VB-8), GEORGE GAY (VT-8), RANDOL TAYLOR (VS-8), ANDREW J. COOK JR. (VF-8), WILLIAM A. TUNSTALL (VT-8), with JACK REID, the PBY pilot who first spotted the Japanese occupation force. The book shows minor foxing to the endpapers and mild toning to the page edges, with notable splits and rodent damage to the original dust jacket, else very good. Several of these aviators, particularly Earnest and Gay, were among the only survivors of their squadrons.
