(1887 - 1976) British Field Marshall who commenced the drive at El Alamein that ultimately drove Rommel from North Africa. Also involved in the invasions of Sicily and France. A.L.S. "B.L. Montgomery", 1p. 12mo., "Tac Headquarters, British Army of the Rhine", Dec. 2, 1945, to Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 5th Marquess of Salisbury. In full: "Thank you very much for the photograph of my father's portrait. I am very glad to have it. I hope you keep well. It is getting very cold here." He signs in black ink at the conclusion. Affixed to a backing sheet, shows folds, else very good.
