Good pair of World War I-era U.S. Army recruiting posters, includes: immediately post-war recruiting poster, 18" x 19", titled "Battles Give Way to Sport in A[merican] E[xpeditionary] F[orces]". It is illustrated with nine captioned photos depicting soldiers enjoying a variety of recreational activities in England and the continent, including pole vaulting, a vaudeville performance, swimming, mule and "soup wagon" races, and more. The poster continues at bottom: "How would you like to be with Uncle Sam's privileged tourists? Why worry about the hot weather or a job? Take a cool and comfortable ocean voyage. See Hawaii, Panama, or the Philippines, and better yourself by attending the Vocational Schools. Earn-Learn-Travel." A publishing line at bottom left indicates that the poster was produced by the Government Printing Office. Shows a few small folds, else very good. WITH: a second wartime or immediately post-war recruiting poster, 19" x 24", titled "What You Gain If You Go Into The Army", and presenting a list of seven benefits, including furloughs, bonuses, flexible enlistment periods, travel opportunities, vocational education, and more. It continues below: "Think It Over!! Are you sure the job you left when you came into the Army is waiting for you?", with a space for the address of a local recruiting office, blank in this instance. Shows a few small chips to the edges, else very good. Two pieces.
