Good pair of World War I-era U.S. Army recruiting posters, the first 11" x 14", illustrated with a depiction of soldiers undergoing instruction in a classroom as additional men drill outside. The poster bears the title "The U.S. Army Wants Real Men", and continues: "Join the "University in Khaki" and fit yourself for higher rank in Civil Life or a commission in the Army. You Earn While You Learn". No artist information is present. It is numbered "Recruiting Series No. 3" at top left. The second poster, also 11" x 14", is similarly numbered "Recruiting Series No. 4" and depicts three soldiers on watch by the Rhine. It states: "No More Men Are Needed for the Watch on the Rhine, but 26,000 Men Are Wanted to Relieve the Watch on the Rio Grande". The illustration presented here bears the printed signature of artist Gordon Grant, a captain in the U.S. Army. Both show minor folds overall, with one or two minute chips to the edges, else very good. Two pieces.
