Fine dress uniform fez, as worn by a forestry police officer of the Italian "Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale" ("Voluntary Militia for National Security"), or MSVN, commonly known as the Blackshirts. The oval fez is constructed of black velvet, with the crown encircled by a black silk ribbon, and with a black tassel sewn along the axis of the crown and draped over the right-hand side. A braided and knotted black and gold cord is also sewn along the axis of the crown, looping down to run along the right-hand side. At front is a badge depicting the fascist-era insignia of the "Corpo forestale dello Stato" ("State Forestry Corps"), or CFS, a fasces and eagle in profile over two crossed axes, all embroidered in gold bullion, over a cockade depicting a gilt metal numeral "II" on a field of green wool, all backed with red wool. The left-hand side of the cap is fitted with a trapezoidal red wool patch embroidered in bullion with a fasces within a border beneath three stripes. The interior is fitted with a grey faux-leather sweatband and lined with white silk, with a celluloid sweat shield protecting the embroidered label of the maker, "Unione Militare" of Torino. The lining shows some sweat stains, with some wear to the sweatband and minor oxidation to the bullion insignia, else very good.
