Finely-carved wood frieze, approx. 35" x 9", commemorating the meeting of Italian generals Petro Badoglio and Rodolfo Graziani, following their capture of the Ethiopian cities of Addis Ababa and Harar, respectively, which marked the fall of the Ethiopian government under Haile Selassie and Italian victory in the Second Italo-Ethiopian War. The frieze shows the two generals meeting at center beneath the outstretched arms of the personification of Italy, Italia Turrita, holding a shield and fasces. They are flanked by their respective flag bearers, with striding "bersaglieri" soldiers at extreme left and right, each above a dragon. The legend "Incontro Di Due Grande Condottieri Badoglio E Graziani In. A O" ("Meeting of the Two Great Commanders Badoglio and Graziani") is carved below the central scene. The frieze is skillfully painted, although the paint is now somewhat faded with age, and two mounting holes are placed between each "bersaglieri" and the central scene. Shows a tight crack to the legs of the right-hand "bersaglieri", else very good.
