M. E. CLIFTON JAMES (1898-1963) British actor and soldier, with a close resemblance to Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery. He was used by British intelligence as part of a deception campaign which aimed to divert troops from northern France, by convincing the Germans that an Allied invasion of southern France (Operation Dragoon) would precede a northern invasion. His memoir: "I Was Monty's Double" (London: Rider & Co.), 1955, 192pp. 8vo. in light blue cloth with gold titles, lightly worn dust wrapper. Signed on the title page. Interestingly, this volume is from the library of Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. whose husband, Gen. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. landed in Normandy on D-Day.
