(1906 - 1945) Nazi military leader and SS-Gruppenfuhrer, a Knight's Cross winner with Oak Leaves. Fegelein married Eva Braun's sister and served as a liaison between Hitler and Himmler, but in the closing days of the war, he was caught attempting to flee and was summarily executed. Important signed book, "Album des Deutschen Rennsports 1938" ("Album of German Racing Sports 1938"), (Berlin: H. Weinrich), 1938, 120pp. folio, a chronicle of developments in German horse-racing for the year 1938. Fegelein signs boldly on the title page in black ink. The front flyleaf additionally features a stamp indicating ownership by the "SS-Hauptreiterschule" ("SS-Main Riding School") in Munich, and an inner page features a photograph of Fegelein himself participating in a showjumping competition, in which he won the "Braunes Band von Deutschland" ("Brown Ribbon of Germany"). The publication shows notable moisture damage overall, with warped and partially split cloth covers, foxing to the endpapers, and loosening to the binding, with the signature unaffected. Fegelein's father had started the "Reitinstitut Fegelein" ("Riding Institute Fegelein") in 1926 and later made the school available to the SS for meetings. When the younger Fegelein became the administrator of the school in 1937, it became the primary equestrian school of the SS and was renamed the "SS-Hauptreitschule". In addition, Fegelein oversaw the preparation of the courses and facilities for the equestrian events of the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936, and won the "Deutsches Spring- und Dressurderby" ("German Jumping and Dressage Derby") international tournament in 1937. With the help of his friend "Höherer SS- und Polizeiführer" ("HSSPF"; "Higher SS and Police Leader") Karl von Eberstein, he arranged the transfer of all the Bavarian State Police horses to the SS riding school in case of mobilization. His fear was that the horses would be handed to the Wehrmacht.
