Fine example of a red-brown stoneware urn, approx. 12 3/4" x 6 1/4" dia, marked "Bottger Steinzeug" ("Bottger Stineware") on the base, above the crossed swords trademark of German porcelain manufacturer Meissen. The front of the urn is decorated with an eagle in high relief, with the shoulders ringed with laurel leaves. The reverse bears the painted gilt legend "Dein Leben Ein Adlerflug, Dein Kampfen Im Adlermut!" ("Your Life an Eagle's Flight, Your Fight an Eagle's Courage!"), over the date "1936". The significance of this inscription is unknown, but could indicate manufacture in honor of heroic aviators of World War I. The base is further marked "L241", "N255", and "18" around the edge. The relief design retains some traces of wax in the services, left over from the molding process, else in fine condition.
