Fine memorial photo album and scrapbook, 28pp. 8vo., assembled by the family of Gerd Lange, a Wehrmacht "unteroffizier" of an anti-tank artillery regiment who was killed in action on February 5, 1944, near Vitebsk in Belarus. The album contains seventeen b/w photos, 3 1/4" x 5 1/2" and smaller, including two portraits of Lange in uniform, as well as several candid images of him with his comrades, under review, and being instructed on the use of his artillery weapon. Additional images show his grave marker and a sweetheart. A lock of his hair is contained within a wax-paper envelope affixed to the first page, and many additional items of ephemera are included, including several letters and poems home to his family, his death notice, memorial cards, and more. All are placed in a postwar album, with captions added to the page by a family member in blue ballpoint pen. Very good.
