A very unusual signed item, an excavated piece of aircraft aluminum, approx. 27" x 11", signed in black ink by three crewmembers of the "Enola Gay", the B-29 that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945: pilot PAUL W. TIBBETS (1915-2007), weapons test officer MORRIS JEPPSON (1922-2010), and navigator THEODORE "DUTCH" VAN KIRK (1921-2014). All add their roles aboard the aircraft, with Tibbets and Van Kirk adding the date of the attack, and Jeppson adding "Enola Gay Mission". The relic is also signed in black ink by prisoner of war RAYMOND "HAP" HALLORAN, as well as three other unidentified individuals. It bears inscriptions indicating that it was recovered on Saipan on June 16, 2004, and signed on Tinian by at least one of the unidentified individuals the following day. In relic condition.
