Interesting piece of postal history, a postally-used cover bearing three stamps honoring the murder of Austrian Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Elizabeth on June 28, 1914. The cover bears what are apparently first day cancels in Sarajevo on June 28, 1917, three years after the assassination. The envelope bears the address of Fr. Anton Puntigam, a Roman Catholic priest who gave the last rites to Franz Josef in the town hall of Sarajevo and blessed the corpse. SOLD WITH: postcard photographs of the two victims, dated August and October 1914.
