(1880 - 1964) American general and Allied Supreme Commander in the Pacific in World War II, accepted the surrender of Japan and was later dismissed by Truman for advocating an invasion of China. A very unusual signed item, a first-day cover, 5 1/2" x 3 3/4", issued in Japan and featuring a Japanese postage stamp showing a fighter over the ocean, post-marked at Tokyo on August 1, 1945, days before the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Macarthur signs at upper left in black ink, obviously following the Japanese surrender. A much later stamps showing Richard Nixon has inexplicably been added at bottom left, else very good.
